Draw Near: How to Deepen Your Relationship with God (Without Striving or Guilt)

Have you ever felt like your relationship with God could be deeper… but you weren’t sure how to get there?
Maybe you’ve read your Bible, said your prayers, and even joined a study group—but still feel distant from God. You’re not alone. In a world full of distractions and spiritual burnout, many women are craving more than routine. They’re longing for real connection with God.
The good news? God isn’t hiding. He’s inviting.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8 (ESV)
This isn’t a call to do more. It’s an invitation to come closer.
Let’s talk about five ways you can deepen your relationship with God—without striving, shame, or spiritual gymnastics.
1. Seek Him with Your Whole Heart
God isn’t looking for part-time pursuit. He promises, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). That means showing up with honesty, not perfection.
Ask yourself:
- What’s taking first place in my heart right now?
- Where is God in my daily decision-making?
Deepening your relationship starts with a simple prayer:
“Lord, I want to know You more.”
2. Stay Connected—Don’t Just Check the Box
Jesus used a beautiful metaphor in John 15: “Abide in me, and I in you.” Abiding means staying, dwelling, remaining close.
It’s not about how many verses you read—it’s about how much of your heart you bring into it. Whether you’re folding laundry or stuck in traffic, talk to Him. Invite Him in. That’s abiding.
Ask Him:
“Jesus, help me stay with You, not just visit You.”
3. Surrender Control and Trust His Timing
Let’s be honest—trusting God can be scary, especially when His timing doesn’t match ours. But Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us that when we stop leaning on our understanding and acknowledge Him, He will make our paths straight.
What do you need to lay down today?
Maybe it’s a relationship, a plan, or a fear.
Surrender opens the door to deeper intimacy.
4. Know Who You Are in Christ
You are not who the world says you are. You are who God says you are.
- Chosen (Ephesians 1:4)
- A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- A daughter of God (Romans 8:15)
When you understand your identity, you stop performing and start resting. You stop proving and start abiding. You stop hiding and start healing.
Ask God:
“Show me who I am through Your eyes.”
5. Focus on Relationship, Not Religion
Let’s face it: it’s easy to fall into spiritual checklists—read the Bible, pray, go to church—and miss the Person behind it all. God wants your heart more than your habits.
When you remember He loves you, not because of what you do, but because of who He is, everything shifts. You stop striving and start drawing near.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock…” – Revelation 3:20
Will you open the door?
