“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”  2 Peter 3:18, ESV

Have you ever looked up and realized you’ve drifted far from where you once were? Maybe it was on a lazy afternoon at the beach when the waves gently carried you away from your starting point. You didn’t feel the pull; you didn’t notice the movement, but suddenly, you were much farther from shore than you intended.

This happens in our spiritual lives, too. The busyness of work, the demands of family, or pursuing of our personal goals are some things that deter us from our spiritual growth. None of these are bad things, but without realizing it, they can drag us away from God. Missing one quiet time turns into a week. A hurried prayer becomes silence. Just one season of stress makes us question whether God is even listening.

But here’s the good news: No matter how far we drift, we can always return. And not only that, God invites us to grow in Him, not just come back but flourish in our faith.

Why Spiritual Growth Matters?

In our everyday responsibilities, it’s easy to prioritize everything except our spiritual well-being. We pursue professional development, work hard on relationships, and invest in self-improvement. But how is our relationship with God? If we don’t nurture it, it becomes stale.

2 Peter 3:18 calls us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” This isn’t just a gentle suggestion—it’s an essential part of deepening our faith. True spiritual growth means:

  • Learning more about who Jesus is so we can live in the freedom He gives.
  • Experiencing His grace so that we aren’t weighed down by guilt or shame.
  • Allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts so we reflect Christ in our daily lives.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in your faith, or if you’ve wandered and want to return, growing in grace is the key to rekindling your relationship with God.

What Does It Mean to Grow in Grace?

The word grace is powerful. It reminds us that our salvation is not earned; it is a gift. But grace isn’t just something we receive once and forget about. It’s something we grow in daily.

To grow in grace means:

  • Learning to accept God’s love even when we feel undeserving.
  • Understanding that God’s forgiveness is bigger than our failures.
  • Living in the freedom that we are no longer defined by our past.

Many women who have drifted from God struggle with guilt. Maybe you’ve thought: God must be disappointed in me. I’ve neglected Him for so long. How can I come back?

The answer? By grace. God’s arms are always open. Spiritual growth isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress. It’s about drawing near to Jesus, little by little, step by step, knowing that He is the one who does the work in us.

Practical Steps to Grow in Your Faith

If you’re ready to return to God and grow spiritually, here are a few practical steps to help you reconnect with Him:

1. Make Time for God Daily

Life gets busy, but spiritual growth requires intentionality. Just like we prioritize relationships that matter to us, we need to prioritize our time with Jesus.

  • Start small. Read one Bible verse in the morning and meditate on it throughout the day.
  • Listen to worship music while driving or cooking. Let those lyrics fill your heart with truth.
  • Talk to God in small moments—while folding laundry, during a lunch break, before bed. Prayer doesn’t have to be formal; it just needs to be real.

2. Study God’s Word with Purpose

Knowing God comes from knowing His Word. If the Bible has felt overwhelming or distant, start fresh:

  • Choose a reading plan that speaks to where you are right now (grace, faith, renewal).
  • Focus on one book at a time—maybe start with John to deepen your understanding of Jesus.
  • Keep a journal to write insights, questions, and prayers.

3. Embrace Community

Spiritual growth should not be a solitary journey. If you feel disconnected, seek other Christian women who can encourage and support you.

  • Join a Bible study or small group—even an online one if in-person isn’t an option.
  • Find an accountability partner—someone who will check in on you, pray for you, and remind you of God’s love.
  • Attend church regularly. Being in a community of believers can reignite your faith.

4. Let Go of Guilt and Receive Grace

If you’ve drifted from God, guilt might whisper that you’re not worthy of returning. But God’s grace silences guilt.

Psalm 103:12 reminds us:
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Let that truth sink in. Your past does not define you. The moment you turn back to God, He welcomes you with love, not condemnation.

5. Trust God with the Process

Spiritual growth is a journey, not a destination. Some days, you’ll feel close to God; other days, He may feel distant. But no matter what, He is always with you.

When you struggle, remember:

  • Jesus is patient. He doesn’t rush your growth; He walks with you through it.
  • You are never too far gone. No matter how long you’ve been away, God still calls you His beloved.
  • Small steps matter. Each prayer, each verse, each moment spent with Him strengthens your faith.

A Call to Growth

Growing in grace isn’t about doing more, it’s about drawing nearer. It’s about allowing God’s love to reshape your heart, His Word to renew your mind, and His Spirit to guide your steps.

If you’ve drifted, don’t let shame hold you back. Instead, take a step forward in faith. Open your heart to Jesus again. Choose to grow in Him. The journey back starts with one step—and He will meet you there.

Reflection Questions:

How can I embrace God’s grace instead of holding onto guilt?

In what areas of my life have I drifted from God?

What small steps can I take today to grow spiritually?

Todays Prayer

Dear Lord,

I come to You today with an open heart, realizing how easily I have let the busyness of life pull me away. Yet, no matter how far I drift, You are always near, waiting with open arms.

Today, I choose to return. Draw me back into Your presence, renew my spirit, and help me to walk closely with You once again.

Teach me to grow in grace, to seek You first, and to rest in the freedom of Your love. When doubt and guilt try to pull me away, remind me that Your mercy is greater than my mistakes.

Your grace has no limits, and I am never too far gone for You to restore me.

Thank You for Your faithfulness, for never turning away, and for always calling me back. Help me to trust in Your love and to walk in step with You each day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
