I used to see God as someone to fear—distant and quick to punish. Growing up in church, I thought if I didn’t follow all the rules perfectly, something bad would happen.

That belief shaped how I saw myself and how I lived. Every mistake felt like a strike against me.

As a teenager, life got heavy. Pain came in unexpected waves, and I couldn’t understand why a loving God would allow it. I started to question everything. Instead of running to God, I ran the other way—chasing after things I thought would make me happy.

But they never did. The more I leaned into my own desires, the emptier I felt.

Eventually, I hit a wall. After many broken relationships and too many sleepless nights, I found myself in a place of desperation. That’s when I finally cried out to God—not with fancy words, just an honest, “Help me.”

And He did.

What I found wasn’t a God full of wrath but a Father overflowing with compassion. He didn’t shame me. He welcomed me.

In that moment of surrender, it felt like a thousand pounds lifted off my shoulders. I could breathe again.

I started reading the Bible—not out of duty, but out of hunger. And the more I read, the more I wanted to know Him.

Slowly, something shifted. I wasn’t trying to be perfect anymore. I was learning to be present with God, to let Him lead, and to rest in His grace.

Now, I don’t strive to earn His love. I walk in it.

God is changing me from the inside out—gently, patiently, powerfully. It’s not about church attendance or doing things just right. It’s about letting Him shape my heart.

And I pray that as He continues His work in me, others might see His light shining through—and be drawn to the One who never stops pursuing them, either.
