When You’re Blessed with Abundance: A Devotional Story

“And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.” Luke 12:18, ESV
Devotional Story
In one of Jesus’ parables, He shared the story of a farmer who had an abundant harvest. This farmer decided he would take his abundance and store it up, so he’d have grain for years to come. Then he could relax and enjoy his wealth.
So, he tore down his current barn and built another. But the farmer dies and leaves behind all his wealth before he can put his plan into motion.
The point of the parable is not that it’s wrong to be wealthy. Rather, Jesus wanted to point out that the farmer kept all his abundance for himself and hoarded.
When God has blessed you with more than enough in an area of your life, it can be tempting to cling to it. God may bless you with more than enough money, more than enough health, or more than enough family.
Instead of keeping what God gives you to yourself, look for a way to share it with others, too. For example, if you’re healthy, volunteer to run errands for someone who is sick. If you’re surrounded by family, welcome someone into your life who is alone and needs community.

Blessings in Abundance Meaning
The phrase “blessings in abundance” often prompts us to reflect on the things we have and how we use them. Many people might hesitate to share their blessings, whether they be material possessions, time, or talents.
Understanding the importance of sharing what we have leads to a more profound fulfillment than simply accumulating for ourselves. Acts 20:35 tells us that “it is more blessed to give than to receive,” suggesting that generosity enriches our lives.
When we give to others without hesitation, as encouraged in 2 Corinthians 9:7 and Galatians 6:2, we embody the love and care that we are called to show one another as people. Proverbs 28:27 reminds us that being generous not only helps those in need, but also ensures that we do not lack in our own lives.
As we approach our lives with a giving heart, one that looks to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4), we see blessings amplify when we distribute them freely.
God desires for us to share not just out of obligation, but joyfully and generously. Luke 6:38 beautifully encapsulates this idea: “Give, and it will be given to you,” showing that when we bless others, we often receive blessings in return—sometimes even in unexpected ways.
By sharing our blessings, we not only fulfill a divine purpose but also nurture a community defined by love and care, enriching both our lives and the lives of others.
Why Blessings are Important
Sharing blessings with others can feel difficult, especially when we consider our own possessions, time, or talents. But there are many benefits to sharing what we have, grounded in faith and biblical wisdom. Here are ten reasons sharing blessings in abundance is important:
- True Treasure: According to Matthew 6:19-21, our treasures are not to be hoarded. When we share with others, we align our hearts with what truly matters—relationships, kindness, and love. This not only enriches our lives but also helps us focus on spiritual rather than material wealth.
- Joy in Giving: Acts 20:35 reminds us that giving brings more happiness than receiving. This joy can boost our mental well-being and create lasting connections with those we help.
- Counteracting Greed: Luke 12:15 warns against greed, highlighting that life is more than possessions. By sharing what we have, we combat feelings of greed and cultivate a spirit of generosity, which ultimately leads to personal satisfaction.
- Increased Abundance: Proverbs 11:24-25 teaches that generosity leads to greater abundance. When we share our resources with others, we often find that our needs met in surprising ways.
- Building Community: By sharing, we strengthen our community bonds. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to bear one another’s burdens—working together creates a supportive environment where everyone thrives.
- Meeting Needs: We are called to help those in need (Matthew 25:35-40). By sharing food, resources, or time, we directly affect the lives of those around us, fulfilling a vital role in our communities.
- Blessings Return: Luke 6:38 tells us that when we give, we will receive—often in unexpected ways. This principle of reciprocal generosity creates a cycle of abundance that benefits everyone.
- Acting Out of Love: John 13:34-35 emphasizes the importance of loving one another. Sharing is a tangible expression of love that reflects our values and beliefs, encouraging deeper connections with others.
- Being an Example: Sharing sets a positive example for others, especially younger generations. By practicing generosity, we not only enrich our own lives but also inspire those around us to do the same (Ephesians 4:28).
- Storing Up Eternal Rewards: Sharing our blessings is a way to invest in eternal purposes. When we help others (Proverbs 19:17), we literally lend to the Lord, storing up blessings that go beyond this life.
Sharing our blessings leads to personal growth, strengthens community ties, and aligns with biblical values. It’s more than just giving; it’s about participating in a larger movement of love and kindness that enriches all involved. So, share what you have—it’s one of the most rewarding choices you can make.
Remember, you’re blessed with abundance.
Embracing the mindset of sharing our blessings with others is a powerful way to experience true abundance in our lives. While it can feel challenging to let go of our possessions or time, the benefits far outweigh any hesitations we might have.
Every act of generosity enriches not only the lives of those we touch but also our own, as we find joy, fulfillment, and deeper connections with others.
Remember, abundance surrounds you, and sharing it cultivates a spirit of kindness that reflects our values and inspires others.
So take that step in making the world a better place. Your decision to share today could be the spark that ignites a wave of positivity in someone else’s life, and that is a blessing worth cherishing.
Todays Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the blessings You have given me in my life. Help me to remember that it’s not just about holding onto my abundance, but about sharing it with others.
Give me the wisdom to see where I can use my blessings—whether it’s my time, my talents, or my resources—to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Remind me that true joy comes not from what I keep for myself, but from what I give away. Help me to be generous and to share Your love with those around me.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
